An Update From Valent Legal on COVID-19

The full impact of COVID-19 on the legal system is still unfolding. For now, most law firms, including ours, remain open. At Valent Legal we are taking social distancing seriously. The majority of our office is working remotely, and we are revolving in a small group of staff and lawyers into the office daily. Rest assured we have all the tools to continue to practice law remotely.

All of our platforms are accessed through the Cloud. The Courts system have announced measures designed to support social distancing.

  • All Motions are now being held by video-conferencing or done in writing.
  • Jury trials have been put on hold. For now, Judge only trials and settlement conferences are proceeding as scheduled.
  • The Court offices are still open and court filings are being handled in the normal course.

The vast majority of work can still be completed via email, phone or by video. We fully expect that, like the court hearings/motions, discovery examinations and meditation will proceed by video-conference in the coming weeks. It is inevitable that there will be some delays as we work through the initial days of remote access solutions.

Depending on the trajectory of COVID-19, we may eventually see courts shut down temporarily. But the loss of certain resources, such as courts, also promotes opportunities to focus on other ways to resolve claims. We will be creative in helping our clients resolve claims. And we remain available to all of our clients, and potential new clients, 7 days a week.
