Chuck Ford – Community Support
Chuck is the co-founder of the UNB Poverty Law Society/Clinic (1997-99); a program that is still operating over 20 years later. He volunteered (full-time) at the Saint John Legal Centre (SJLC) for the summer following his first year of law school. He returned for a second summer on a partially funded grant. Chuck has been a volunteer with reachAbility since 2002, taking on several pro bono cases and projects over the years. He was a reachAbility Board Member from 2015-2019.
He was a member of the LISNS Pro Bono Hub Project Advisory Committee (2011-2015) and has supported the Public Navigator Program since its inception in 2015. He was the NS representative on the CBA’s National Pro Bono Committee.
Community matters to Chuck. He was a board member and Chair, of the MS Society of Canada (Atlantic Division) (2001-2012). Chuck was also a board member and Chair of the National Board of Directors of the MS Society of Canada (2008-2015). He is the youngest Chair in the history of the MS Society National Board.
He was nominated as a finalist for volunteer of the year in Bedford, NS (2008). He was a board member and Chair of Sacred Heart School of Halifax Board of Governors from 2015-2021.
Chuck is a board member and current president of the Bedford Beavers summer swim team.
One of the great joys of Chuck’s career was teaching Civil Trial Practice at Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law for four years (2006-08; 2009-2011). Chuck also taught the second-year moot workshops from 2021-2023. He has also been a frequent lecturer at the Schulich School of Law.
