Waterville Abuse Class Action

Overview

Valent Legal has commenced a class action against the Attorney General of Nova Scotia over allegations of sexual abuse of minors at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre, located in Waterville.

The Waterville correctional facility was and still is operated and managed by the province of Nova Scotia. It opened in 1988 under the mandate of rehabilitating young offenders in its care. Since it opened, many of these youths were alleged to have been subject to various forms of sexual abuse perpetrated by a staff member employed by the province as a swim instructor.

Multiple reports were alleged to have been filed by residents of Waterville with regard to the sexual misconduct of the swim instructor. Waterville failed to take any effective action to address this misconduct.
